[이천석의 사설] 권력의 도적질이 불러올 재앙 — 더 이상 지켜볼 수 없다

대한민국의 명운이 위태롭다. 권력을 사유화한 정권의 무자비한 횡포가 연일 빛을 잃은 법과 제도를 짓밟고 있다. 전·현직 고위 인사들을 향한 예외적 체포, 사법부와 행정기관에 대한 노골적 압박, 의회와 언론을 향한 공세가 계속되면서 우리의 민주적 기반은 눈앞에서 무너지고 있다. 이재명 정권이 보여준 작태는 더 이상 ‘정치적 흥정’의 범주에 머물지 않는다. 그것은 권력을 이용한 제도적 약탈이다.

이 같은 폭정이 계속된다면 결과는 명확하다. 억눌린 분노는 언젠가 폭발한다. 사회적 신뢰가 완전히 붕괴된 상황에서 민심의 이반은 통제 불능의 소용돌이를 낳을 수밖에 없다. 불법·불공정한 권력 행사는 시민의 기본권을 침해하고, 경제적·사회적 불안정을 가중시키며, 결국은 거리의 충돌과 폭력 사태로 비화할 위험을 현실로 가져온다. 우리는 이미 그 전조를 일련의 이진숙, 대장동 항소포기, 황교안 사태를 통해 목격하고 있다 — 제도적 정당성의 상실은 곧 사회적 질서의 균열로 이어진다.

따라서, 만일의 폭력사태를 막기 위해서도 윤호중 및 정성호 등 해당 장관을 경질하고 더이상의 폭정이 이어져서는 안 된다. 지금의 위기 국면에서 가장 시급한 것은 권력의 오만을 바로잡을 제도적 응징이다. 지금 당장 필요한 조치는 다음과 같다.

첫째, 모든 수사와 처분은 즉시 투명하게 공개되어야 한다. 체포·영장·수사 과정의 정당성에 대해 국민 앞에서 낱낱이 소명하라. 불투명한 ‘비밀 수사’는 더 큰 의혹과 분노를 낳을 뿐이다.

둘째, 의회와 사법부는 제 역할을 하라. 국회는 즉각 국정조사와 청문회를 통해 권력 남용의 전모를 규명하고, 사법부는 독립성과 중립성을 지키며 법 앞의 평등을 구현해야 한다. 기관의 침묵은 공범임을 자인하는 것이다.

셋째, 언론과 시민사회는 단호하게 감시하라. 사실검증과 공론화를 통해 왜곡과 은폐를 허용하지 말고, 국제 사회의 시선도 확보하라. 국제적 감시와 투명성은 부정의 재생산을 차단하는 방패다.

마지막으로, 정부에게 경고한다. 권력 유지의 명분으로 민주적 규범을 흔드는 순간, 그 모든 파장은 결국 정부 자신에게 되돌아온다. 폭력의 가능성을 남긴 채 권력을 지속하려는 자는 그 결과에 대해 역사의 심판과 국민의 책임을 피할 수 없다.

이제 국민은 선택해야 한다. 권력을 탐욕적으로 사유화하는 자들에겐 무관용이 답이다. 그들이 바로잡히지 않는다면, 대한민국은 돌이킬 수 없는 균열과 파탄을 맞이할 것이다.

이재명 정권은 지금 즉각적인 자기정화를 시작하라 — 국민의 안전과 자유를 지키는 것은 어떤 정권보다 우선이다. 이를 무시할 경우 파멸이 있을 뿐이다.

C.S.Lee's Editorial: The Disaster Caused by Power’s Plunder — We Cannot Remain Silent Any Longer.

The fate of the Republic of Korea hangs in the balance. The regime that has privatized power is trampling, with ruthless tyranny, over laws and institutions already robbed of their vigor. Extraordinary arrests of current and former senior officials, blatant pressure on the judiciary and administrative bodies, and relentless assaults on the legislature and the press have continued, and our democratic foundations are now collapsing before our eyes. What the Lee Jae-myung administration has shown is no longer a matter of “political bargaining.” It is institutional plunder carried out with the tools of power.

If such despotism continues, the outcome is clear. Suppressed anger will one day erupt. In a situation where social trust is wholly eroded, the alienation of public sentiment will generate an uncontrollable vortex. Illegal and unfair exercises of power violate citizens’ fundamental rights, exacerbate economic and social instability, and can realistically escalate into street clashes and violent unrest. We have already seen the warning signs in the Lee Jin-sook affair — the loss of institutional legitimacy leads directly to fractures in social order.

Therefore, to avert potential violent outbreaks, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-joong must be dismissed, and this tyranny must not be allowed to continue. What is most urgently needed in this crisis is institutional reckoning to correct the arrogance of power. The measures required immediately are as follows.

First, all investigations and dispositions must be disclosed transparently at once. Account to the public, in full detail, for the legitimacy of arrests, warrants, and investigative procedures. Opaque “secret investigations” only breed greater suspicion and rage.

Second, the legislature and the judiciary must fulfill their roles. The National Assembly should immediately launch a parliamentary inquiry and hearings to expose the full extent of power abuses, and the judiciary must safeguard its independence and impartiality to realize equality before the law. Institutional silence is an admission of complicity.

Third, the press and civil society must watch resolutely. Through fact-checking and public debate do not allow distortion or cover-ups, and secure the attention of the international community. International scrutiny and transparency are shields against the reproduction of injustice.

Finally, a warning to the government: the moment you shake democratic norms to preserve power, every blow will rebound upon you. Those who cling to power while leaving the possibility of violence in their wake cannot escape history’s judgment or the people’s accountability.

Now the people must choose. The answer to those who greedily privatize power must be zero tolerance. If they are not corrected, Korea will face irreparable rupture and ruin.

The Lee Jae-myung administration must begin immediate self-purification now — protecting the people’s safety and freedom must take precedence over any regime. Any reaction to this will bring only destruction.
