[이천석의 사설] 역사 왜곡의 위험, 국군을 혼란에 빠뜨리는 이재명

이재명이 10월 19일 여순사건을 두고 “불법 국가 명령에 항거한 행동이었다”고 언급한 것은 충격적이다. 이는 국가의 근간인 법치와 군 기강을 송두리째 뒤흔드는 망언이자, 역사적 사실을 의도적으로 왜곡한 발언이라 하지 않을 수 없다.

여순사건은 명백히 ‘반란’이었다. 대한민국 정부 수립 직후, 정당한 군 명령을 거부하고 무장 봉기를 일으킨 사건으로, 수많은 민간인이 희생되고 국군 내부 질서가 무너졌던 비극이었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이재명은 이를 ‘애국적 항거’라 포장하며, 국가의 정통성과 군의 명예를 부정했다. 이는 단순한 역사 해석의 차이가 아니라, 정권의 정치적 목적을 위해 역사적 사실을 뒤틀어버린 위험한 행위다.

더 심각한 문제는 이재명 스스로의 정치적 정통성이 불법 의혹과 맞물려 있다는 점이다. 만약 그가 스스로 ‘불법 국가 명령에 항거한 자가 애국자’라 규정한다면, 여러 불법 혐의자로 권력을 얻은 자신 역시 합법적 통수권자가 될 수 없다는 논리에 스스로 빠지게 된다. 범죄 혐의자로 탄생한 권력이 군을 지휘하는 것은 모순이며, 그 지휘에 복종하는 것은 ‘법에 대한 충성’이 아닌 ‘불법에 대한 굴종’이 된다.

국군은 헌법을 수호하기 위해 존재한다. 군의 충성은 특정 인물이 아니라 ‘대한민국 헌법과 국민’에게 바쳐져야 한다. 대통령이 그 헌법적 가치와 역사를 왜곡한다면, 군은 그 잘못된 명령을 따르지 않는 것이 오히려 헌법적 의무일 것이다.

이재명의 발언은 역사와 군, 그리고 국가 정체성에 대한 중대한 도전이다. 여순사건의 본질을 미화하는 것은 대한민국의 정통성을 부정하고, 젊은 세대에게 반역을 미화하는 잘못된 역사 인식을 심어주는 행위다.
국민은 이재명의 왜곡된 역사관이 더 이상 국가의 운명을 흔들지 않도록 단호히 경계해야 한다.

Lee Jae-myung’s remark on October 19, calling the Yeosu–Suncheon Incident “an act of resistance against an unlawful state order,” is shocking.
It is a statement that shakes the very foundation of the nation — law and military discipline — and an intentional distortion of historical fact.

The Yeosu–Suncheon Incident was clearly a rebellion.
It occurred shortly after the founding of the Republic of Korea, when soldiers refused a legitimate order and rose up in armed revolt.
The event resulted in the tragic loss of countless civilian lives and a collapse of order within the newly formed national army.
Yet Lee Jae-myung has chosen to romanticize it as an “act of patriotic defiance,” denying the legitimacy of the state and the honor of the armed forces.
This is not a mere difference in historical interpretation — it is a deliberate political manipulation of history for his own ends.

Even more troubling is that Lee Jae-myung’s own political legitimacy is mired in controversy.
If he truly believes that those who defied an illegal order were patriots, then by that same logic, a president who rose to power through unlawful means cannot be regarded as a legitimate commander-in-chief.
A government born of illegality cannot rightfully command the nation’s armed forces, and obeying such authority becomes submission not to law, but to corruption.

The Republic of Korea Armed Forces exist to defend the Constitution, not to serve the ambitions of any individual leader.
Their loyalty must be to the nation and its people, not to a distorted political agenda.
If the president himself undermines constitutional values and historical truth, then it becomes the military’s constitutional duty to resist unjust orders.

Lee Jae-myung’s statement represents a grave challenge to Korea’s history, its military, and its national identity.
To glorify the Yeosu–Suncheon uprising is to deny the legitimacy of the Republic and to instill in the younger generation a dangerously false view of patriotism.
The people must remain vigilant so that Lee Jae-myung’s warped historical vision does not continue to endanger the fate of the nation.
