목사의 정치 참여, 침묵은 죄악이다

“정의가 강물처럼 흐르고, 공의가 마르지 않는 강처럼 흐르게 하라.” — 아모스 5장 24절

오늘날 한국 교회는 기로에 서 있다.
정치가 타락하고, 거짓과 위선이 국가를 지배하며, 불의가 제도화되는 현실 속에서 교회는 무엇을 하고 있는가?
예수 그리스도의 이름을 부르며 세상의 빛과 소금이 되겠다고 다짐한 교회가,
지금은 오히려 침묵이라는 이름으로 불의에 동조하고 있는 것은 아닌가.

 “정치는 세속이니 교회는 거리두기 해야 한다?” — 그릇된 논리다

일각에서는 “교회는 정치에 관여하지 말라”고 한다.
그러나 성경을 펼쳐보라.
요한은 헤롯의 죄를 꾸짖었고, 모세는 파라오 앞에서 진리를 외쳤으며,
예언자들은 권력자에게 “너희는 정의를 버렸다”고 고발했다.

하나님은 결코 교회를 비겁한 중립지대로 부르지 않으셨다.
교회가 정치에서 중립을 지킨다는 말은, 현실에서는 곧 악과 불의에 편승한다는 뜻이 된다.
정치가 잘못된 방향으로 가고 있을 때,
목사와 교회가 침묵하는 것은 단순한 방관이 아니라 도덕적 배신이다.

목사의 사명은 단순히 설교가 아니다 — 정의의 나팔수가 되어야 한다

목사는 교인에게만 복음을 전하는 자가 아니다.
그는 시대의 양심이자 도덕의 경계인이다.
잘못된 정책이 국민을 억압하고, 불의한 권력이 사회의 질서를 무너뜨릴 때,
목사는 하나님의 정의의 나팔수로서 진리를 외쳐야 한다.

예언자적 사명은 ‘정치적 중립’ 뒤에 숨어 있을 때 실현되지 않는다.
교회의 침묵은 독재의 밑거름이 되고,
목사의 두려움은 불의한 지도자의 면죄부가 된다.

오늘날 많은 교회가 신도들의 눈치를 보며 설교의 칼날을 무디게 한다.
그러나 진리의 말씀은 칼보다 날카롭다.
그것이 사람의 마음을 불편하게 만들지라도,
그 불편함이야말로 회개와 변혁의 시작이다.

 정치 참여는 권력 쟁취가 아니라 ‘양심의 실천’이다

목사의 정치 참여를 반대하는 이들은 흔히 “정치는 더럽다”고 말한다.
그러나 정의가 없는 정치야말로 가장 더러운 정치다.
깨끗한 신앙인이 정치의 영역에서 정의를 외치지 않는다면,
그 자리를 결국 거짓과 탐욕이 차지하게 된다.

목사가 권력을 탐하는 것이 아니라면,
그의 정치 참여는 곧 하나님의 나라를 세상 속에서 구현하려는 신앙의 실천이다.
정의와 진실이 짓밟힐 때,
목사는 강단 위에서만이 아니라 공공의 광장에서도 하나님의 뜻을 전할 의무가 있다.

⚖️ 결론 — 침묵하는 교회는 더 이상 교회가 아니다

역사 속에서 진정한 교회는 언제나 권력 앞에서 두려워하지 않았다.
그들은 신앙의 이름으로 시대의 불의를 고발했다.
오늘 우리 시대의 교회가 그 용기를 잃었다면,
그것은 교회가 아니라 사교집단의 모임에 불과하다.

목사의 정치 참여는 선택이 아니다.
시대의 부름이며, 양심의 명령이다.
불의한 권력에 침묵하는 교회는 더 이상 그리스도의 교회가 아니다.
지금은 행동할 때다 — 정의의 나팔을 불어야 할 때다.

Today, the Korean church stands at a crossroads.
As politics decays, hypocrisy reigns, and injustice becomes institutionalized, one must ask:
Where is the church?

The church, which claims to be the light and salt of the world,
has grown silent in the face of corruption and falsehood.
Under the guise of “neutrality,” it has chosen compliance through silence.

? “The Church Should Stay Out of Politics”? — A Flawed Argument

Some insist that the church must remain separate from politics.
But open the Bible:
John the Baptist condemned Herod’s sin,
Moses stood before Pharaoh in defiance,
and the prophets declared, “You have abandoned justice!”

God never called the church to be a cowardly bystander.
To claim political neutrality in times of moral crisis is, in reality,
to side with evil and injustice.
When politics becomes corrupt and leaders abuse power,
the church’s silence is not virtue — it is moral betrayal.

? A Pastor’s Duty Is Not Mere Preaching — It Is Prophetic Leadership

A pastor’s calling goes beyond Sunday sermons.
He is the conscience of the times — the moral watchman of a nation.
When unjust policies oppress citizens and corrupt powers distort truth,
the pastor must speak as God’s trumpet of justice.

Prophetic leadership cannot flourish behind the walls of “political neutrality.”
The church’s silence feeds tyranny,
and the pastor’s fear becomes a license for oppression.

Many pastors today dull the edge of truth, fearing backlash from their congregations.
But the Word of God is “sharper than any double-edged sword.”
If it makes people uncomfortable,
that discomfort is the beginning of repentance and renewal.

? Political Participation Is Not Power-Seeking — It Is the Practice of Conscience

Those who oppose pastoral involvement in politics often say, “Politics is dirty.”
Yet it is politics without righteousness that is truly filthy.
If people of faith withdraw from the political arena,
that void will inevitably be filled by greed and deceit.

When a pastor engages politically, not for personal gain but for the sake of justice,
it becomes an act of faith in action — a living expression of God’s kingdom on earth.
When truth and justice are trampled,
the pastor’s duty extends beyond the pulpit —
he must stand in the public square as a voice of conscience.

⚖️ Conclusion — A Silent Church Is No Longer the Church

Throughout history, the true church never bowed to power.
From those who resisted emperor worship to pastors who defied military dictatorship,
they stood firm in the name of faith and truth.
If today’s church has lost that courage,
it is no longer the church of Christ — it is merely a club of fear and convenience.

Pastoral involvement in politics is not optional.
It is a divine calling and a moral obligation.
A church that remains silent in the face of injustice
ceases to be the church of Jesus Christ.

Now is the time to act —
to sound the trumpet of righteousness once more.
