6.3 지방선거를 앞둔 대한민국의 거리 풍경은 기이하다 못해 참담하다. 여당 후보들은 정책과 비전 대신 특정 정치인과의 친분을 과시하는 데 혈안이 되어 있다. 거리마다 내걸린 현수막에는 '이재명의 친위대'임을 자처하며 찍은 사진들이 도배되어 있고, 후보들은 앞다투어 자신이 '심복'임을 내세운다. 국가의 미래를 논해야 할 선거판이 특정 개인을 향한 충성 경쟁의 장으로 변질된 것이다.

더욱 심각한 것은 과거 이재명 대통령의 개인적 송사를 대리했던 변호사들이 정부 요직에 대거 포진했다는 점이다. 법적 방어권을 행사하던 인물들이 국가의 공적 권력을 쥐게 된 상황에서, 이제는 지방자치 권력마저 그들의 전유물로 전락할 위기에 처했다. 이는 공당의 시스템이 붕괴되고, 공적 가치보다 사적 인연과 충성이 우선시되는 '사당화(私黨化)'의 전형적인 모습이다.

범죄 의혹이 해소되지 않은 채 권력의 정점에 선 지도자와, 그를 비호하며 권력의 부스러기를 챙기려는 세력들이 결탁할 때 국가의 기강은 흔들릴 수밖에 없다. 법치주의의 근간인 ‘법 앞에 평등’은 사라지고, 오로지 '내 편'이면 범죄도 훈장이 되는 아수라장(阿修羅場)과 같은 정국이 펼쳐지고 있다. 만약 이번 선거마저 이러한 선동에 휘말린다면 대한민국은 정의가 실종된 '범죄 공화국'이라는 오명에서 벗어나기 힘들 것이다.

정치는 결국 국민의 수준을 반영한다. 권력자가 제아무리 세력을 과시하고 선동할지라도, 그 권력의 생사여탈권을 쥐고 있는 것은 결국 유권자다. 지금 우리에게 필요한 것은 냉정한 이성과 정의로운 분노다. 감언이설과 화려한 사진 뒤에 숨겨진 권력욕을 꿰뚫어 보아야 한다.

국민은 이번 지방선거를 통해 준엄한 경고를 보내야 한다. 사법적 리스크를 권력으로 덮으려는 시도를 차단하고, 공적 가치를 훼손한 부역자들이 정치권에 발을 붙이지 못하도록 엄중히 심판해야 한다. 비극적인 '범죄의 역사'를 끝내고 다시 상식과 정의가 통하는 대한민국을 만드는 힘은 오직 국민의 깨어 있는 투표권 행사에 달려 있다.

The political landscape of South Korea ahead of the June 3rd local elections is not just bizarre; it is catastrophic. Ruling party candidates, instead of presenting policies and visions, are frantic to flaunt their ties to a specific political figure. Streets are plastered with banners featuring candidates posing with President Lee Jae-myung, each claiming to be his "loyal guard." An election that should be a forum for discussing the nation's future has devolved into a competition of personal fealty.

What is more alarming is that the lawyers who once defended President Lee in his private legal battles have now occupied key government positions. In a situation where individuals who exercised legal defense for a private citizen now hold public power, local governments are also at risk of becoming their private spoils. This is a textbook example of a political party’s "privatization," where the public system collapses and personal loyalty is prioritized over public values.

When a leader who ascended to the pinnacle of power without resolving criminal allegations joins forces with a faction seeking to reap the crumbs of that power, the discipline of the state inevitably falters. The bedrock of the rule of law—"equality before the law"—is vanishing. In its place, we see a political "Asura" where crime becomes a badge of honor as long as you are on the "right side." If this election falls prey to such demagoguery, South Korea will struggle to escape the stigma of being a "Republic of Crime" where justice has gone missing.

In the end, politics reflects the caliber of the people. No matter how much those in power flaunt their influence and engage in propaganda, the ultimate power over life and death in politics lies with the voters. What we need now is cold reason and righteous indignation. We must see through the lust for power hidden behind sweet words and glamorous photographs.

The citizens must send a stern warning through this local election. We must block attempts to cover judicial risks with political power and strictly judge the "collaborators" who have tarnished public values so they can no longer find a foothold in politics. The power to end this tragic "history of crime" and rebuild a Republic of Korea where common sense and justice prevail lies solely in the hands of an enlightened electorate and their right to vote.
